Failed to download the dsm installation file






















Open Package Center and use the Manual install button in the upper right corner. Follow the wizard to the end and install Plex. Once you have Plex installed, access it and add some libraries to it unless you already have this up and running. This is the step that most of you will want to start off. So you already have Plex running and you want to upgrade to DSM 7 but also have Plex up and running under it without any problems.

First, we need to uninstall it! Do it. Now we are ready to install Plex so head over to Plex. Before running the install, you can go to File Station to make sure that the Plex folder where all the metadata and app files are is still there and has some data in it.

Now, open up Package Center and use the manual install to load up the DSM 7 Plex version that you have just downloaded. Next, we need to add permissions to the "old" Plex folder and redo the install once more in order to migrate the Plex instance correctly. Once you are on the Permissions tab, make sure to change the dropdown menu from Local users to System internal user. The account in question is PlexMediaServer. Click its Custom column, and add Full Control permissions.

Select Administration , Read , and Write permission for the user and click Done. After you have selected the checkbox, click Save , and wait. Depending on the size of your folder and the number of files this can take some time.

Be patient. Now that we have set the permissions in step 06 on the original Plex folder and have uninstalled Plex it is finally time to install it and let it run its migration. Again, run the normal install. As long as you have set the permissions as indicated in STEP05, Plex will initiate the migration and complete the installation. MDRAID also works with blocks, but they are called chunks to differentiate them from filesystem blocks.

A stripe is the logical grouping of adjacent chunks spanning the array members horizontally. Using the example of a RAID5 with three drives, two of the chunks in the stripe contain data and the third chunk is parity. When DSM performs data scrubbing, it reads all three chunks, then validates all the data and parity in each stripe for mathematical consistency and corrects if necessary.

Each stripe rotates the position of the parity block successively through the array members. In the three-drive example, stripe 1's parity chunk is on drive 1, stripe 2's parity chunk is on drive 2, stripe 3's parity chunk is on drive 3, stripe 4's parity chunk is back on drive 1, and so on This results in an even distribution of data and parity across all array members.

Note that many files filesystem blocks may be stored in one chunk. The highest density case is 16 files of 4K or smaller in a single chunk. Consider that when one of those files change, only two of the three chunks in the stripe must be rewritten: first, the chunk containing the block containing the file, and then the parity chunk since the parity calculation must be updated. RAIDF1 subtly modifies the RAID5 implementation by picking one of the array members let's call it the F1-drive , and sequencing two consecutive stripes in the stripe parity rotation for it.

When a small file or file fragment one that does not span a stripe is written, on average the F1-drive will be used about twice as often as the other drives. Thus, the F1-drive will experience accelerated wear and will reach its life limit first.

Then it can be replaced with minimal risk of one of the remaining members failing at the same time. For best results, all the drives should all be the same size and type a larger drive can be used but extra space will be ignored. If this drive was then selected as the F1-drive, it may have enough write capacity to outlast the other array members, which could then fail together.

Always using identical SSDs for the array will avoid this freak occurrence. This is done by creating a series of arrays, including a small one compatible with the smallest drive, and a large one using the available space common to the largest drives, and possibly some in between depending upon the makeup and complexity of the SHR.

For redundancy, the large SHR drives must be members of all the arrays. The small SHR drives contain only one array and not much of the overall data, and are accessed much less frequently than the larger drives. Because the F1-drive is written to more frequently, it will be affected by write amplification more severely than the other array members, and performance of both the drive and the array will degrade over time unless TRIM support is enabled. I also agree that the source does not include all parts. That is why in very spare time I am working on complete patch from open source kernel and synologies open source kernel so that we can move to any version of kernel and make it easier to include the synology modded and missing stuff. Another kind of check is to make sure your system does not have any clue that you pretend to be a DSM model, for example has some file named xpenoboot somewhere,or has pid, vid in kernel cmdline, these should not exists in a real DSM devices. Sometimes, it also checksum each other to make sure system executables are not patched. If DSM determines that is is not run on intended hardware, it will try to unmount all your volumes, shutdown the system, sometimes also corrupt some DSM system files etc.

And what I did is to make sure DSM get what it wants, so it will running happlily and ignorantly. Then maybe we should take some inspiration from what was done for Hackintosh with OSX. We would be able to use vanilla kernel without any modification as long as the devices are supported. There is quite a bit Synology has modified in their kernel since I have been dissecting the code.

It appears they make certain calls to hw as Jun has also pointed out. The file is probably corrupted. On same setup i have installed latest 5. Any insights on this problem? However it is HW version 12 so it's not usable max v I converted it to V11 and for some reasons it does not work.

There is exactly the same issue than the DSM6 from okstime, it installs fine but it wants to update every time you boot. So it looks a timing issue to me, will look into it. I've found the root cause, and updated my thread, you may want to take another chance to see if it works.

I suggest to test it on VM first, then add hardware drivers for boot on bare metals.

Just add some scsi or sata disk, then boot, and follow normal installation process. Anyway, I upload a new ramdisk to workaround the issue.
